SCP 578 is a spray-applied treatment that penetrates into the capillaries and pores of Portland cement concrete structures and substrates to seal and waterproof the concrete from the inside out. This action allows SCP 578 to reduce the effects of durability issues such as carbonation and/or efflorescence.
SCP 578 works by penetrating into the capillaries and voids left in concrete as bleed water exits. Once in the concrete, SCP products react with available alkalis to primarily form Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H), the same reaction product provided by cement hydration that provides most of concrete’s desirable properties. The reaction products formed fill capillaries and shut down liquid water movement and reduce water vapor transmission to acceptable levels for coatings, coverings, and flooring. This action makes SCP products an effective waterproofing agent, even under hydrostatic pressure.
SCP 578 withstands hydrostatic pressure and can be effectively applied on the positive or negative side of concrete structures. There is minimum site disruption that allows early access for other trades.
